Digital Literacy

In the 21st century we are surrounded by technology. The internet plays a big role in our everyday lives. Through the internet we have access to so much information. In today’s world with smart phones people are constantly on social media. or are doing research to try and find answers and solutions. Digital literacy involves the effective use of smartphones, tablets, and laptops for communication, expression, and collaboration. As “digital citizens” it is important that we make safe and responsible choices while online.

How do you describe yourself as a learner in the 21st century?

I feel that I am a fairly quick learner. I love to learn and try new things. I consider myself to be a good digital citizen. I am responsible and respectful when I am online. Technology has changed over the years and for the most part I feel that I have kept up with the changes. I also realize that I still have a lot to learn in the world of technology. I look forward to exploring and learning more of what the digital world has to offer.

How do you describe yourself as a teacher in the 21st century?
It is hard to describe myself as a teacher because I have not started teaching just yet. I have observed a lot of teachers, and have learned a lot from them as far as how to incorporate technology into teaching. I want to stay up to date so that I can teach my students computer literacy. I also want to teach my students how to be good digital citizens. There are a lot of wonderful programs out there that will enhance education, and will give students a richer educational experience. For example in a first grade class I worked there were some students who struggled with reading. The teacher had them use a program called Mindplay and their reading scores greatly improved.  As a teacher I want to be a good steward of all the technology we have available to us to enhance our students’ education.
