My Vision as a Teacher

Hello! My name is Erin Lowry. I have worked in the school system for six years as a paraprofessional, and have also done some substitute teaching. I am also a teacher for an after school program. Through these jobs I realized my love for children and my passion for teaching. I have worked with grades K-8th, have loved them all, although I would love to teach kindergarten or first grade.

My goal is to help my students become successful and to help them reach their full potential. I want every student to feel known, and to feel accepted. All students have the ability to learn, and every student learns and sees the world differently. I will modify instruction as necessary for students who need it, and make sure students receive services they need to grow and be successful. I want all my students to feel welcomed and to feel apart of my class. I also want to teach as well as lead by example, so my students will learn the importance of accepting one another.

Because I have a lot of empathy and understanding for people, I feel that I am able to understand and connect with my students no matter their background, race, or individuality. Being that I am an extrovert I enjoy interacting with my students. I like to look at all the facts and take a practical approach in helping my students learn and succeed. I will value and honor my students for who they are, and for what they offer and bring to my classroom and the world.

I tend to be a visual learner so I need visuals to help me understand the concepts that I am being taught. I also learn by doing. In other words you can tell me how to do something, but I need to see it and do it for myself in order to fully comprehend and understand. As a teacher I want to make my class accessible to all learners. I like using lots of visuals as well as have my students engage in activities that are interactive and hands on. Most of the time I feel that I learn more when working on my own versus when working with a group. I understand the importance of students working individually as well as in groups. Students learn from each other while working together. They also learn to cooperate and work with others to accomplish goals. When I teach my students, or give out assignments, I will be very detailed and clear with my expectations. I want all learners to be successful while in my classroom.

The most important thing to me is that all my students feel valued and honored. Everyone has an amazing gift to offer the world. I want to see my students reach their greatest potential.
